Tolerated Houses

Under the supervision of the Police but unregistered by the S.C.A. there are seven houses containing white women who are practising prostitution. Each house has a Mistress and two prostitutes. The Mistress arranges for the rent of the house and for the board of the women in it, She receives from each of her women the sum of $300 per mensum for board and lodging. The prostitutes are perfectly free to leave whenever they wish.

Of the fourteen demimondss seven are "rench womwn of the rest some are Russians and some are British.

ThexRakkaax For years the practice has been for each of the women to submit herself for examination by a private practit- ioner once a week. The Police scrutinise these certificated and insist that any one infected shall leave the house and desist from practising prostitution. As a rule when one of this class becomes. infected she enters the Government hospital for treatment.

Ablution Centre

In the east end of the town close to the brothel area there is an ablution centre. This centre is rented by the civil authorities and loaned to the Military who rum it.
